Amber's Wedding gift
When I saw that Amber and Johnny had a quilt rack on their wedding registry, I thought I can build that. I had some other things on my to do list and it took me a little while to get it done. (six months)
I actually bought the one on the gift registry to use as a pattern, My uncle had some walnut from a fallen tree in my hometown of Woodland Ca. and I bought some from a lumber yard in SLC.

I hadn't done anything like this before, so I did a practice in construction grade lumber (doug fir).
For the practice run I cut one of the bridal joints by hand and the other one on the table saw. But in the real thing I cut both on the table saw and trued up the fit with hand tools.
I used a little block of plywood as a guide jig to get the angles right. I made patterns out of hardboard and used a pattern following bit to the parts to final size.

For the six 1" cross dowels, I cut a piece square and then used a round over bit in the router to make a dowel. Four passes and a square peg is now round. (this is also where I stuck my finger in the router. (not something I recommend))
I decided to make the tenons on the dowels 3/4" and to cut them all I made a tenon cuter out of an open end wrench. Since my little lathe wouldn't hold the whole dowel, I put a screw in the wall and used a steady rest. (necessity is the mother of invention)
I used hard maple wedges in the through tenons.
